Phoenix Suns
History
Warm weather is not all the Phoenix Arizona area has to be happy about. Basketball premiered in Arizona when the Phoenix Suns basketball organization got it's start in 1968. The team was founded by former Chicago Bull coach Jerry Colangelo. This expansion team saw early success with the combination of twins Dick Van Arsdale and Tom Van Arsdale. In their 1976 season they would leap into the NBA Finals however losing to the Boston Celtics in 6 games.
In 1992 they would trade for one of the more famous Suns players in Charles Barkley. Although keeping the Suns in contention during his stay Barkley would not be able to lift the team to championship status. He was eventually traded to the Houston Rockets.
Starting the 21st century the Suns watched the blossoming of rookie power forward Amaré Stoudemire. Combined with Steve Nash and Shawn Marion the Phoenix Suns look to make a push for western conference contention.
