New York Knicks

History
The New York Knicks are one of the only two basketball teams that were with the NBA from it's start and reside in the same town. Although having played a long span of time in the NBA and enriched with basketball history the team has only won two championships in 1970 and 1973. The Knicks have won eight conference titles.

The rise of the Knicks ensuing to their championship seasons is buoyed on what coach Red Holzman did with their young talent.

In the 1984 season the Knicks would enter the NBA lottery for the organization's first time. They would get the number one pick in the draft. New York would select Center Patrick Ewing as their pick. The number one draft pick would not come without controversy. Many believe the draft was fixed for the Knicks to get the number one pick due to the fact that seven teams had an equal chance of getting it and the team with the nations biggest media market, the Knicks, got to pick first.

Patrick Ewing would go on to be the rookie of the year averaging 20 points and 9 rebounds per game. In the 1996-97 season the Knicks would look to build around their aging center. However their swift acquisitions would not result in the domination the team hoped for. Ewing would play his entire career in New york before retiring in 2000.

The city did become host to many rivalries including Michael Jordan, Reggie Miller and the Miami Heat.

In the 2005-06 season the Knicks would acquire native New Yorker coach Larry Brown. However the season would progress poorly for the Knicks despite having the future hall of famer coach. What especially was disappointing for the team is the salary cap exceeding $120,000,000. If you put both the player salaries of the Western (San Antonio Spurs) and eastern (Detroit Pistons) conference champions in 2004-05 together it would not amount to what the Knicks spent on players in the expected disappointing season of 2005-06.
