Detroit Pistons

History
The Detroit Pistons were established in Fort Wayne, Indiana during the 1940s. The Pistons get their name from the Zollner Machine Company. In 1974 the team was purchased by the Bill Davidson group and owned by them since. The Pistons are known through the 80s into the twenty first century for their defense.

Some of the most well known Piston names include Isiah Thomas, Joe Dumars, Bill Laimbeer, Grant Hill, Ben Wallace, Rip (Richard) Hamilton and Chauncey Billups.

The team was moved into the Palace of Auburn Hills during the 1988-1989 season. They have won three NBA championships in the Palace of Auburn Hills in 1989, 1990 and 2004.
