Dallas Mavericks
History
The Mavericks share the state of Texas with 2 other basketball teams the San Antonio Spurs and Phoenix Suns. The Mavs got their basketball start in 1980 as an expansion basketball team playing in the Western Conference. They are the youngest of the three NBA teams in the state of Texas. Within just two seasons of their start the young organization would enter the NBA playoffs.
In 1988 they were back in contentions facing the LA Lakers who were led by Magic Johnson. They played competitive basketball with the Lakers however could not overcome the star laden Lakers.
Dallas would see the rise of three young stars nicknamed "Triple J" by commercial campaigns. The three included Jason Kidd, Jamal Mashburn, and Jim Jackson. Despite the trio the Mavericks came close to setting the worst record in NBA history two years in a row.
In the 1996-97 season the Mavericks would bring in a new trio of stars that would make up the best offense in the NBA at that time. Led by Michael Finley, Dirk Nowitzki and Steve Nash this international lineup of stars would give opposing Defenses many problems.
The Mavericks are also known for having one of the most vocal owners in the NBA Mark Cuban. It was in 2000 that he purchased the Dallas Mavericks organization.
