Charlotte Bobcats
History
The Charlotte Bobcats got their start in the National Basketball Association during the year 2004. The team's first basketball season was during the 2004-05 year for the NBA. The Bobcats are the NBA's most recent expansion team in league history. The Bobcats play in the Southeast division of the Eastern Conference.
The team was a hot commodity during it's formation stage. Several suitors made bids for the Bobcats including Larry Bird. However the ownership would rest upon Billionaire Robert L. Johnson of the Black Entertainment Television network. Musician Nelly is also a minority owner.
During the naming process of the team the name Charlotte Flight was the public favorite. However team majority owner Robert Johnson preferred to name the team the Bobcats.
In the 2004 draft year the Bobcats selected Forward/Center Emeka Okafor. He would gain rookie of the year honors with the team. In 2005 the team drafted guard Raymond Felton and forward Sean May. Along with Okafur these players represent the future of the expansion Bobcats.
