Atlanta Hawks

History
The Atlanta Hawks got their start back in 1946 in the NBL. Back then they were known as the Tri-Cities Blackhawks. In their debuted season with the NBA they were able to reach the playoffs with famed coach Red Auerbach. The following season they drafted future NBA legend Bob Cousy but made a big mistake of trading him to the now known Boston Celtics team.

In their 1958 basketball season the Atlanta Hawks captured the NBA crown and won their only championship. They would continue to be a premier team in the NBA for the next ten years.

During the 1970's the team was purchased by Ted Turner who was also the owner of the Atlanta Braves. Thirty years later the team would find itself struggling and for sale. The Hawks were purchased by Atlanta Spirit LLC a group from the Time Warner corporation. The team is also partly owned by the Nintendo entertainment company.

Despite ownership change the Hawks have posted disappointing seasons during their 2000 era.
